16. luukku: Remii and Butterfly Wish You Merry Christmas

Above is Saturnia pavonia, also known as the Small Emperor Moth (in Finnish “riikinkukkokehrääjä” or “pikkuriikinkukkokehrääjä”). They are commonly found in nutrient-poor grasslands with hedges but also in blackberry-rich, larger woodland clearings, bogs and fens. 

Small emperor moth caterpillar’s diet contains a variety of shrubs and trees such as blackthorn, bramble, heather and hawthorn.
